Q.

Equation of the plane passes through the line of intersection of the planes 2x + y –4 = 0 and y + 2z = 0 and perpendicular to the plane 3x + 2y – 3z = 6 is

View Answer

Correct choice: B

Explanation:

Any plane through line of intersection of the plane 2x + y –4 = 0 and y + 2z = 0 is
(2x + y –4) + λ(y + 2z) = 0 ……………..(1)
d.r. of its normal are 2, 1 + λ, 2λ
Since it is perpendicular to 3x + 2y – 3z = 6
Hence 2 × 3 + (1 + λ) 2 + 2λ (–3) = 0
Or 6 + 2 + 2λ – 6λ = 0
Or λ = 2
Putting λ = 2 in (1) we get the required equation.
